Wallet Requirements

To interact with Counterparty and dispensers, you need a Bitcoin wallet compatible with the WBIP (Wallet Bitcoin Integration Protocol) standard. BlockVault connects to your wallet to check balances, sign transactions, and generate addresses.

Your private keys never leave your wallet. BlockVault only requests signatures for transactions you explicitly authorize. For details on wallet security, see Wallet Security.

Counterparty-Specific Considerations

  • Self-custody: BlockVault does not custody your funds or assets. Everything remains under the control of your Bitcoin wallet.
  • On-chain verification: all transactions (dispenser purchases, sends, dispenser creation) are recorded on the Bitcoin blockchain and can be independently verified.
  • Trusted dispensers: the "trusted dispensers" filter helps identify verified sellers, but it is always advisable to research an asset before purchasing it.
  • Irreversibility: Bitcoin transactions are irreversible. Once you buy through a dispenser or send an asset, the operation cannot be undone.
  • Network fees: Counterparty transactions are standard Bitcoin transactions and are subject to the usual Bitcoin network fees, which vary depending on network congestion.
